18 jun, 2025

On December 9, within the framework of his working visit to France, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ara Aivazian held a meeting with President of the Senate of France Gerard Larcher. The First Vice President of the Senate, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces, leaders of a number of political factions of the Senate, as well as the President of France-Armenia Friendship Group also participated in the meeting.

The interlocutors commended the intensive political dialogue between Armenia and France, based on rich historical and cultural ties and sincere friendship between the two nations.

Minister Aivazian expressed his gratitude for the resolution "On the Recognition of the Republic of Artsakh" adopted by the Senate of France on November 25, emphasizing that it is a strong signal to the international community and expresses the unwavering commitment of the French people to the universal civilized values of human rights.

Touching upon the meaning of this resolution, Minister highlighted its importance in the process of recognizing the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination, as well as the fair settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The Minister underlined that Turkey, by actively supporting Azerbaijan's warmongering aggression against Artsakh, is bearing a responsibility for Azerbaijan's policy of annihilating the Armenian people in its historical homeland.

Minister Aivazian drew the attention of the French officials to the manifestations of a disrespectful treatment, destruction and desecration of the Armenian historical-cultural and religious monuments under the Azerbaijani control. In this context, the sides stressed the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage in the conflict zones and the active involvement of specialized international organizations in this matter.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the humanitarian challenges resulting from the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against the people of Artsakh and the steps being undertaken to address them.

They also had an extensive exchange of views on a number of urgent regional issues.
